Safe Space, PAVE Child Protection Specialist Centre (CPSC), was set up in Singapore on 3rd January 2017.
The goals of Safe Space are:
1. To enhance safety and well-being of children and families through integrated casework services
2. To promote public awareness and enhance community responsibility of child maltreatment
Safe Space handles moderate risk child abuse cases, referred by the Child Protective Services (CPS) from the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and the community. We serve children and young persons, aged 16 and below, who are experiencing issues of child maltreatment. PAVE CPSC works closely with the family, hospitals, police, schools and the community to ensure the safety and well-being of the children.
Safe Space provides information to persons seeking information regarding child abuse and maltreatment or to discuss options about their family situation.
Casework services are provided by professionally trained social workers who are trained in child abuse and family violence work. Persons who are abused, persons who abuse and witnesses of abuse may receive emotional support on a one-to-one basis.
Safe Space provides trauma-focussed counselling which aims to address the needs of children and adolescents aged 5 – 16 with posttraumatic stress symptoms and other difficulties related to traumatic life events such as their experiences of violence.
Safe Space offers parenting support to parents who face difficulties managing their children’s behaviours. The parenting programme aims to equip parents with the knowledge and skills to use positive parenting methods to build relationships with their children and manage their behaviours.
Social workers conduct research and document their findings in the hope that the findings might shed light on possible gaps in service delivery and stimulate the development of relevant programmes to address these gaps.
The public education programmes at Safe Space aims to raise awareness on and promote healthy family relationships, as well as to raise awareness on community resources and supports for healthy relationships in families.
